KUALA LUMPUR: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) are getting ready for another busy time of hosting major international events this year.
BAM have been handed the task of hosting the World Junior Championships for the first time from Oct 23-Nov 1 at either Johor Baru or Alor Star.
The national body are also contemplating hosting a Grand Prix gold tournament.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) are allowing their members to host an additional international tournamentthis year.
The Grand Prix gold is rated one step lower than Super Series.
Last month, Malaysia hosted the opening leg of the Super Series at Stadium Putra, where world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei emerged as the men’s singles champion for the fifth time.
By hosting the GP gold, the Malaysian players — especially the back-up shuttlers — will have more opportunities to improve on their world rankings.
