Boonsak said it was easy for him in the first game because the opponent could not play his own game.

''He came back strongly and came close to winning the second game,'' he said. ''I made an escape thanks to my experience.''

In the quarter-finals, Boonsak will meet compatriot Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk who beat India's Kashyap P 21-14, 21-19.

Porntip Buranaprasertsuk is the only Thai woman in the quarter-finals while Salakjit Ponsana's campaign ended in the second round.

Porntip rallied to beat Finland's Anu Nieminen 19-21, 21-13, 21-16 in 47 minutes. She will meet Singapore's Aiying Xing in the quarter-finals.

Salakjit, Boonsak's sister, lost 21-16, 21-15 to third-seeded Chen Wang of Hong Kong.

''She was too strong for me. She is very good particularly her service. She played very well and I could not play my own game,'' the Thai said.

Chen will meet Japanese Kaori Imabeppu in the last eight. Kaori defeated compatriot Ai Goto in the second round.

Top seed Xie Xingfang of China needed only 31 minutes to overcome Indonesian qualifier Yuswandari Aprillia 21-10, 21-12.

Second seed Lan Lu of China also moved into the quarters by defeating Japanese Megumi Taruno 21-13, 21-14.

In the mixed doubles, Thai duo Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam defeated Taiwanese Hsieh Yu Hsin and Chien Yu Chin 21-12, 21-18.
