THE 10-year rivalry between Lin Dan of China and Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat ended with the four-time world champion sharing a light moment with the media.

When asked about the changes that had taken place in their lives over the last 10 years, Lin Dan shot back in jest: “We are both married now.”

He then added: “We have been at it for a decade now. Taufik may not be the same player but I think he is saving his best for the Olympic Games.

Lin Dan’s first encounter with Taufik, whom he used to look up to, took place at the Asian Badminton Championships in 2001.

Then, the 18-year-old Lin Dan scored a sensational 15-2, 15-3 victory that saw a red-faced Taufik staging a walkout and snubbing the media.

The Indonesian superstar won the next three matches against Lin Dan with the most memorable being the 2005 World Championships final in Anaheim.

But since then, Taufik has lost every match to the Chinese superstar and his latest defeat was in Group B of the Super Series Masters Finals on Thursday.
