MALAYSIA’S Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui finally left their mark on the world stage when they captured the Denmark Open — their first Super Series title — in Odense on Sunday. Pei Tty-Eei Hui, the World No 10, beat Indonesia’s scratch pair Rani Mundiasti-Jo Novita (Ina) 23-21, 21-12 in 32 minutes.

It was also their first win in an Open final after having finished runners-up at the 2005 Indonesian and Dutch Opens, and this year’s Thailand and Japan Opens.

Prior to Sunday’s win, their biggest title was the gold medal at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

Pei Tty-Eei Hui’s Denmark effort will definitely be a confident boost for the Malaysian pair ahead of the French Open which starts today.

Pei Tty-Eei Hui showed plenty of nerves in the opening game and were fortunate to win 23-21 against the unseeded Indonesian pair. Winning the first game did wonders for Pei Tty-Eei Hui who started mixing their game in the second with attacking play and solid defending to win 21-12 and nail the title.
Meanwhile, home hero Peter Gade Christensen secured his third Denmark Open and his first Super Series title since the 2007 Malaysia Open by defeating teammate Joachim Persson 21-18, 17-21, 21-14 in the final.Chin Eei hui (left) and Wong Pei Tty beat Indonesia’s Rani Mundiasti-Jo Novita (Ina) 23-21, 21-12 to win the Denmark Open yesterday.
“With all the injuries I have had this year, I am very pleased with the result here in Odense. I am very satisfied with my play during the whole tournament,” he told www.petergade.net.

“Of course Lin Dan (China) and Lee Chong Wei (Malaysia) were not here, but nonetheless I had a tough draw. Today (Sunday) I was the favourite. It was a tough match for me because Persson played well.”

Indonesia’s Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan, who captured the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics, beat China’s scratch pair Fu Haifeng-Shen Ye 21-18, 21-19 in the men’s doubles final.
