Madrid, Sep 23 (Xinhua) World No. 1 shuttler Lee Chongwei of Malaysia lost to Chinese Bao Chunlai in the mens singles quarterfinals of the World Championships here.

The 23-year-old player saved one match point before going down 20-22, 21-12, 18-21 to Bao Friday. The Chinese had never beaten Chongwei in their previous six encounters.

I found my touch finally after I found a right mindset to play him. In our previous meetings, I wanted to beat him at any cost and that put me under unnecessary pressure which affected my game, Bao said.

In todays match, I only wanted to go all out against him. I did not care about the past result. What I wanted to do was to play my natural game and that helped me pull off a win.

China had all the reasons to celebrate as Bao Chunlais compatriots Chen Hong and Lin Dan also made it to the semis.

Chen defeated Danish Peter Gade 21-17, 15-21, 21-12 while Lin thrashed Malaysian Hashim Hafiz 21-10, 21-9.

Chen Jin could have been the fourth Chinese on the list but he went down to Lee Hyun Ii of Malaysia 14-21, 21-19, 12-21.

As the Chinese were celebrating, a sullen mood developed in the Malaysian camp.

Chongwei refused to speak to the Chinese reporters citing that a Chinese coach had vilified him in the match.

He asked Bao to break my leg. Did you hear that? he said.

Chongweis coach Li Mao, who left the Chinese team for Malaysia after an acrimonious dispute with Chinese head coach Li Yongbo two years ago, emerged into the mixed zone in a more furious mood.

Dont speak too much to them, leave now, he yelled at Chongwei who was finally persuaded to talk.

I should have won the match in straight games - in the first game I led 20-18, but Bao miraculously saved two game points and won by 22-20, he said.

He played better than me, I was a bit nervous in the latter stage and even some of the line calls also upset me.
