Balikpapan: Goh Jin Wei, Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing couldn’t get it done when it mattered the most by going down in Indonesian Masters finals on Sunday.Goh Jin Wei bags second place at the 2016 Indonesian Masters.

16-year-old World Junior Champion Goh Jin Wei who was eyeing her second international title of the year, showed all of her battling spirit in the women’s singles final against No. 1 seed Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand. However, her effort was not quite great enough when she lost to the Thai player 15-21, 13-21 in 42 minutes.

The mixed doubles No. 3 seeds Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing of Malaysia also couldn’t emerge victorious in the final as they lost 16-21 and 17-21 to second seeded Ronald Alexander/Melati Daeva Oktavianti of Indonesia.

“It’s definitely disappointing. We just have to bounce back from the defeat,” said Lai.

“We got few more tournaments to play, and we must produce better results,” added Lai.

Meanwhile, local men’s doubles shuttlers Wahyu Nayaka Arya Pankaryanira/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo delivered the second title for the hosts by defeating Han Chengkai/Zhou Haodong of China, winning 21-16 and 21-18 in 31 minutes.

In the all-Chinese men’s singles final, Shi Yuqi won the title when his compatriot decided to withdraw in the second set after trailing 0-11.

Korea’s Chae Yoo Jung/Kim So Yeong won the women’s doubles title after they survived a huge scare to dispatch Jongkolphan Kititharakul/Rawinda Prajongjai of Thailand 21-18, 22-20 in 54 minutes.
