Malaysia Masters: Lee Chong Wei ready to play in front of his hometown crowd

Lee Chong Wei remains confident going into the 2016 Malaysia Masters.

Georgetown: World No. 5 Lee Chong Wei who grew up in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, was excited to be playing Malaysia Masters in his hometown for the first time. The tournament will be held at SPICE Standium, Bayan Lepas, from Jan 19 to Jan 24.Lee Chong Wei remains confident going into the 2016 Malaysia Masters.

 

“I’ve never played a major tournament in Penang, the last time I played here was during my junior days, that’s why it’s very special for me,” said Lee.

Despite seeded first in the tournament, Lee Chong Wei has to stay vigilant against opponents such as Tommy Sugiarto who defeated him in the recently concluded Premier Badminton League in India.

“Although I am the No. 1 seed in the tournament, I don’t underestimate or lack respect for other players. I’m just taking it one game at a time right now,” said Lee.

The Malaysia Masters 2016 badminton offers a total of US$120,000 in prize money and it is the first Badminton World Federation (BWF) Grand Prix and Grand Prix Gold badminton tournament of the 2016 season.
