“There are many young talented players in Malaysia but they lacked high level competition match experience. To excel, the players must be able to perform well during matches besides having the right skills and techniques as the competition levels are getting higher,” Foo Kok Keong, Malaysia’s legend in men’s singles from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s said. In the glory days of Foo, he clinched several titles including the Singapore Open and French Open singles titles in 1990 and the Asian Championships singles title in 1994. He is also part of the Malaysian Thomas Cup team which won the cup in 1992 defeating Indonesia in the final. Recently, the experienced Foo has been hired by the Kajang Badminton Club as the chief coach to prepare its players for the on-going RWG Purple League.
