Chen Long, Carolina Marin maintain lead as world’s No. 1 players

Kuala Lumpur: Chen Long has widened his lead at No. 1 in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) men’s singles rankings with his recent triumph at Chinese Taipei Open, now holding an additional 23,534 points advantage over the No. 2 Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark. As of July 30, 2015, Chen has been ranked world No. 1 men’s singles player for 32 consecutive weeks.Carolina Marin is working to recover in time for the World Championships.

Meanwhile, Malaysian badminton superstar Lee Chong Wei also moved up one spot to No. 45. Other Malaysian shuttler, Chong Wei Feng has risen three spots to No. 37, after a straight sets semifinal loss to Ajay Jayaram of India at the Russian Open. Zulfadli Zulkiffli remained at No. 38.

The entire top 10 women’s BWF rankings remained unchanged, Carolina Marin maintained her lead at No. 1 in the latest BWF women’s singles rankings, but only by a narrow margin over the No. 2 Saina Nehwal. Points difference between the two was 1,420.

Winning the Russian Open mixed doubles title saw Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying shot up twelve spots to No. 29. If they could put up a strong showing at World Championships, they may have high chance to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games.

Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong who finished runner-up in the Russian Open men’s doubles, have taken a small jump to world No. 14. Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong of Korea continued to lead an unchanged top 10 rankings in men’s doubles.

Koo Kien-Keat/Tan Boon Heong and Hoon Thien How/Lim Khim Wah have all climbed up 13 places in the men’s doubles, with Koo/Tan at No. 54 and Hoon/Lim were ranked No. 60.

The top 13 of women’s doubles remained the same from last week, with Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi retain their lead atop the BWF rankings, and Vivian Hoo/Woon Khe Wei of Malaysia retained the No. 11 spot. Another Malaysian pair Amelia Alicia Anscelly/Soong Fie Cho surged one spot to No. 24.
