Hafiz to know his fate today

HAFIZ Hashim will find out today whether he can play in the Asian Badminton Championships (ABC) in Johor Baru on April 10-15 after the singles player undergoes a second scan for a suspected damaged Achilles tendon at the National Sports Science Institute.

Though the injury is not as serious as first thought, Hafiz does not want to risk aggravating it.

"Even though a scan was done last week, I have been asked to come for treatment and another scan tomorrow (today), and then we will decide. The injury is not serious but I just want be careful," said Hafiz, the World No 9.

"I dont want to aggravate the injury now and then miss future tournaments."

Hafiz, who was a quarter-finalist in the 2006 edition that was also held in Johor, is hoping the injury will heal soon so he can play in this years championships.

"The BAM has submitted my name, but we can only decide after the scan today."

BAM general manager Kenny Goh said: "We will use the next two to three days to decide on Hafizs situation. We are waiting for (coach) Misbun (Sidek) to give us the necessary details."

BAM is expected to submit its final entry list tomorrow.
