Jakarta: After Indonesia's defending mixed doubles pair, Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir, withdrew from the 2014 World Championships few weeks ago due to Ahmad's ankle injury, Indonesia have suffered yet another major blow to its World Championships roster when they announced on Tuesday that Simon Santoso and defending men's doubles world champion Hendra Setiawan/ Mohammad Ahsan have also pulled out from the world meet that will take place in Copenhagen, from August 25 to August 31.

Just two days before their scheduled departure to Denmark on Thursday (21/08/2014), Simon Santoso was rushed to the hospital due to dengue fever. The Indonesian was added to the World Championships competition last week by Badminton World Federation (BWF), replacing Du Pengyu who withdrew from the competition at last minute.

But it turned out Simon must now lay weak in hospitals while his compatriots are competing in Copenhagen. Nevertheless, Simon hoped to recover quickly to make himself available for the 2014 Asian Games, in Incheon, South Korea, held from September 19 to 29.

"It's definitely sad to have to pull out from the World Championships. Currently I am focusing on recover from the dengue fever, and I am still not sure about the participation in the 2014 Asian Games," said Simon.

As for the men's doubles, the world number two pair - Hendra Setiawan / Mohammad Ahsan also suffered a similar fate as Ahsan's lower back pain has gotten worse.

"It is confirmed that Hendra / Ahsan and Simon have pulled out from the 2014 World Championships, because Simon has contracted dengue fever, while Ahsan has experienced serious recurrent lower back pain," said Lius Pongoh, Indonesia Team Manager.
