New York: On Thursday, Ireland’s Scott Evans was able to knock off Petr Koukal of Czech Republic 21-18 21-19 to claim victory in the second round of US Open Grand Prix gold.Scott Evans is the top shuttler from Ireland

Scott struggled in the first round yesterday and was stretched to near his limit before winning the hard fought opening match against Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong 18-21 21-13 22-20.

“Delighted to get that win today. Close at the end,” posted by Scott at his social media page after his firsts round victory.

In mixed doubles, Sam Magee and Chloe Magee who are also from Ireland were delighted after defeated local favorite Lee Hock Lai/Eva Lee of USA 21-9 21-18 in the second day of US Open Grand Prix gold. On Wednesday, the pair managed to knock off Evgenij Dremin and Evgenia Dimova of Russia who won the mixed title at the White Knights event in their home country last week with a 21-18 21-12 victory.

“The win over White Knight champions yesterday gave us a lot of confidence, we will be more focus and ready for other tough games ahead of us,” said Chloe Magee.
