The decision was made due to Chan Peng Soon's longtime partner, Goh Liu Ying has decided to undergo a career saving knee surgery on May 20th this year. Liu Ying, who forms the World No 11 pair with Peng Soon, will take at least six months to return to training but the recovery could take longer if there are other complications.

Chan Peng Soon has partnered with Pei Jing in five international tournaments early this year, however the results weren't that impressive.

They lost to Robert Mateusiak-Agnieszka Wojtkowska of Poland 15-21 21-15 16-21 in the final of Austrian International Challenge, defeated by Ko Sung Hyun-Kim Ha Na of Korea 12-21 15-21 in the German Open, fell out in the first round of the All-England, rejected by Danny Bawa Chrisnanta-Yu Yan Vanessa Neo of Singapore in the second round of Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold and crashed out in the quarter-finals of the Indian Open.

World No. 4 Chris Adcock-Gabrielle Adcock of England is the top favorite at mixed doubles event in the Commonwealth games. Peng Soon and Pei Jing will have to overcome Chris and Gabby Adcock in order to win the gold medal.

Each country is limited to sending five men and five women for the badminton event. The Malaysia men's badminton team will feature Lee Chong Wei, Chong Wei Feng, Tan Wee Kiong-Goh V Shem and the women's team will consist of Tee Jing Yi, Woon Khe Wei-Vivian Hoo and Lim Yin Loo.

Malaysia won four gold medals at the 2010 New Delhi Commonwealth games through Lee Chong Wei in men’s singles, Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong in men’s doubles, Koo Kien Keat-Chin Eei Hui in mixed doubles and in the mixed team event.
