Kangar: Selangor won the gold medal in Sukma badminton men’s team event by defeating Penang 3-2 in the final. The final lasted for almost four hours at the State Sports Complex badminton hall in Kangar.

Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub became the key player who delivered two points to lead Selangor with a 3-2 comeback win over Penang. The 21 year-old got off a good start by defeated Tan Jia Wei 21-15, 21-14. However, Selangor soon found themselves trailing 2-1 when their second Chong Yee Han lost to Penang’s Goh Giap Chin 20-22, 14-21, and their third singles, Soong Joo Ven lost to Cheam June Wei of Penang 21-17, 21-18.
It was Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub who came to the rescue when he partnered Yee Han in the first doubles to level the score by defeating Chua Keh Yeap-Lim Ming Chuen of Penang 21-11, 21-11.
Selangor’s Chua Khek Wei-Woon Man Chun then stepped up to clinch the winning point with a 21-14, 10-21, 21-19 win over June Wei-Nelson Heg Wei Keat.
Azriyn was happy with his two points contribution for Selangor in the final.
"I am really excited to help Selangor wins the Sukma men’s team gold medal,” said Azriyn.
At the same time, Woon Man Chun said the deciding match was extremely intense.
"That was really a tough battle, and we were under a lot of pressure. June Wei-Nelson Heg Wei Keat were very strong, but fortunately we were able to prevail with the winning point for Selangor,” said Man Chun.
Malacca defeated Sarawak 3-0 for the men's team bronze.
In the women’s team final, Federal Territories notched a convincing victory against Johor 3-1, while Selangor settled for bronze by defeating Perak 3-1.
