Even though she is only 19 years old, PV Sindhu almost defeated Wang Shixian of China in the Asian Championship two weeks ago. She has proven that she can put up a fight in a potentially crucial match.

“In our group, Thailand is a tricky team,” said Sindhu. “While Saina would probably play world no. 4 Ratchanok Intanon, I will be playing against Porntip Buranaprasertsuk who has played really well recently. “she added.

Sainal Nehwal’s performance had been sluggish in recent months. But the London Olympic bronze medalist has five weeks of good practice before Uber Cup, she is expected to be back to her best in Uber Cup.

And the 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Jwala and Ashwini are confident of playing their part.

“We usually play well in team events. Ashwini and I helped India won the team silver in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, and we are going to give our best to win a point for India,” said Jwala, who made her India team debut in the Uber Cup qualifiers back in 2000 at the age of 16.

“Team event was a different ball game, where a player has to think beyond his/her own match. We are representing India and want to win it for the country,” Jwala added.

“We are making progress, our games are getting better. It was tough when we got back together early this year. We have been working hard since and we have started to regain our consistency and to feel the chemistry at Asian Badminton Championships few weeks ago,” Ashwini insisted.
