Lee Chong Wei proposed to BAM on Friday that Koo Kien Keat could allow the coaches more flexibility to try different line-ups.
“I have told the doubles coaches about this. Based on my conversation with Kien Keat, he is happy to serve the country again. The ball is in BAM's hand now” said Chong Wei.
“Don't get me wrong, we can choose Yao Han too. However, he could end up being a non-playing member unless someone gets injured. Kean Keat is a bright guy with experience of winning the game, it is always a luxury to have him in the team”
The five doubles players already confirmed for the team event are Lim Khim Wah-Goh V Shem, Hoon Thien How-Tan Wee Kiong, and Tan Boon Heong.
For now, coaches are expected to choose between Chan Peng Soon or Ow Yao Han as the sixth player on May 3.
In the men's singles, Goh Soon Huat will likely be the fourth man. However, he has to win another selection trial on Monday, where he is going to play Misbun Ramdan Misbun and former world junior champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli – in order to secure his spot.
