NAGPUR: India's No. 1 men's singles badminton player Kidambi Srikanth will grace the inaugural ceremony of the annual badminton tournament for media employees on March 20.

Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) and Post Graduate Teaching Department for Physical Education, RTM Nagpur University will be jointly organizing the three-day event.

With an impressive world ranking of 20, Srikanth is now India's best men's singles player. Recently the Guntur lad overtook Paripulli Kashyap in the rankings. Kashyap is currently slipped to world No. 25.

Srikanth, a trainee of Hyderabad-based Pullela Gopichand Academy, became the first Indian badminton player to win the Grand Prix Gold title outside the country when he emerged champion at the Thailand Open last year.

The 21-year-old could have become the first Indian to win two GP Gold titles but unfortunately he lost in the final of the Syed Modi International India GP Gold Badminton Championship at Lucknow in January, 2014 in three games.

The SJAN media badminton meet will be sponsored by Vatsalya Group and will be held at varsity's Subhedar Hall, off Amravati road. Matches will be played with Li Ning feather shuttles. Prizes for all the winners have been sponsored by Li Ning.
