PETALING JAYA: Former world No. 1 Lee Hyun-il proved that he has not lost his touch by storming into the men’s singles final of the Korean Open Grand Prix Gold in Seoul on Saturday.

The 33-year-old Korean, who is now semi-retired, was in his element as he cruised to a 21-18, 21-17 win over China’s Tian Houwei in the semi-finals.

Hyun-il will face compatriot Hong Ji-hoon, once touted to be his understudy, for the title on Sunday.

Ji-hoon, the 2006 world junior champion, overcame another Korean, Soo Hwang-jong, 21-16, 22-24, 21-16 in the other semi-final.

Hosts South Korea are guaranteed of all the five titles at stake as the other four events – men’s doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles – are also all-Korean affairs.
