KUALA LUMPUR: Men’s doubles shuttler Lim Khim Wah will be heading for his third SEA Games with a third different partner but with the same mission – to make an impact in the biennial Games.

Khim Wah, whose new partner at next month’s Games is Ow Yao Han, combined with Chan Peng Soon in Laos (2009) and Goh V Shem in Jakarta (2011).Ow Yao Han (left) and Lim Khim Wah training as a new pair forged just two weeks ago. The latter is certain they can be a successful partnership, beginning at the SEA games next month in Myanmar.

The 24-year-old Khim Wah has vowed to guide his 21-year-old partner Yao Han and make theirs a successful partnership.

It’s great that Yao Han and I have been selected for the SEA Games. I’ve played in the Games twice but it will be a new experience for Yao Han. I will guide him,” said Khim Wah.

“I have played in most of the major tournaments while Yao Han’s biggest exposure probably was the Super Series in Malaysia. Yao Han is a talented and aggressive player. For now, our focus is to tighten up our combination.”
The duo were brought together just two weeks ago.

Khim Wah’s previous partner was V Shem but the duo could not complement each other well any more while Yao Han and his former partner Chooi Kah Meng had failed to progress into the senior squad after winning the world junior title in 2009.

Khim Wah-Yao Han’s first two tournaments before the SEA Games will be the Malaysia International Challenge in Kuching from Nov 12-17 and the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold from Nov 27-Dec 1.

“Our performances in the next two tournaments will give us an idea as to where we stand and whether we can challenge for medals at the SEA Games,” said Khim Wah.

“Our main challengers in Myanmar will be the Indonesians. I believe they will be sending their best players and Yao Han and I will have to raise our game.”

The other Malaysian pair in the SEA Games squad is V Shem-Teo Kok Siang.

Besides Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, Khim Wah is one of the most successful players in the men’s doubles department in terms of results.

He won the Thailand Open Grand Prix in 2009 with Peng Soon and nailed the Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold with V Shem this year.

Asked if he can continue with his good tradition of winning titles with new partner Yao Han, Khim Wah said: “I’m confident that my partnership with Yao Han will only become better ... and yes, we can win titles together.”
