Hyderabad, Aug 15 It was a memorable day for the Chinese couple Lin Dan and Xie Xingfang, with both respectively entering the men’s and women’s singles finals of the World Badminton Championships.
Lin also is aiming to create history by becoming the first player to win three successive world titles. Xie, on the other hand, has also won the singles title twice in 2005 and 2007.
The love story of ‘Super’ Lin and Xie has been the talking point in badminton circles.
Lin, who is born in Shanghang County, first met Xie when he was a 14-year-old. The two have been together for five years.

Newly married Kuncoro can now face wife with pride
Sony Dwi Kuncoro might have lost to Lin in the semi-final of the men’s singles, but the Indonesian is happy with his performance in the tournament.
Recently married Kuncoro said he had promised his wife a good performance at the World Champinships and he has been able to deliver.
“If I had lost in the first round I would not have been able to show my face to my wife. Now she will be happy with my perfomance,” a beaming Kuncoro said.
He gave a tough fight to Lin in the semi-final Saturday.
“He is special. I have played him many times, but have not been able to beat him.
“I tried to slow the game but he was quick with his strokes. You have to play with patient but you need that killer stroke to beat him,” Kuncoro said.
“My energy level was down today after playing the last few matches but I was not afraid,” he added.

Independence Day increases sale at food courts
The food court set up for the World Championships at the Gachibowli Stadium was finally seen teeming with people Saturday.
Even though the Indian challenge at the tournament was over, the crowds flocked to the stadium to spend some time watching some top international stars on Independence Day.
Not many people were seen at the food court on the first four days but Saturday’s
turnout took the vendors by surprise.
“We were waiting for the holiday to earn something. We thought that not many people will turn up after India’s challenge ended. But we were surprised. We had a good sale today,” said a stall owner.
