One of the team officials confirmed on the tournament's official website that Taufik had withdrawn "because he was not physically prepared".

The Indonesian had been drawn to face 2003 All England champion Muhammad Hafiz Hashim of Malaysia in Wednesday's first round with the prospect of meeting world and All England champion Lin Dan of China in the quarter-finals.

Choong Hann, desperate to improve his world ranking to secure a place in the World Championships in Kuala Lumpur in August, was hoping to avoid Lin Dan (picture) at least until the semi-final stage but they are now likely to meet in the last eight.

Choong Hann should overcome Raul Must of Estonia in the first round, Hong Kongs Ng Wei in the second round and Singapores Kendrick Lee in the third round.

PETALING JAYA: National doubles shuttler Choong Tan Fook wants to become a coach after his playing career is over. And it could happen soon if he does not rise to the occasion at the All-England.

Tan Fooks future as a player will be decided after he and partner Lee Wan Wah feature in the back-to-back All-England from March 6-11 and the Swiss Open from March 13-18.
