Sydney: Malaysia's national champion shuttler Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin was in ruthless form on Wednesday in Sydney as he surged through to the second round of the Australian Open with a 21-12, 21-14 victory against Brice Leverdez of France in just 30 minutes. Zulkarnain will play Japanese player Sho Sasaki in the second round. Madrid: World No. 1 women's shuttler Carolina Marin of Spain has withdrawn from the Australian Open as she had suffered some "discomfort" in Indonesia.

Jakarta: Chinese Taipei's women's singles shuttler Tai Tzu Ying stunned former World Champion Wang Yihan of China to lift her first ever Indonesia Open title on Sunday.
