BIRMINGHAM: There was no holding back indeed as world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei whipped Chong Wei Feng in the second round of the All-England on Thursday.

Chong Wei, who is bidding for his third All-England crown, had previously warned that he will not hold back against training partner Wei Feng.Chong Wei Feng in a file photo. He went down to Lee Chong Wei 6-21, 12-21 in the All-England second round in just 35 minutes.

And he certainly kept his word with a comprehensive 21-6, 21-12 win to make the quarter-finals.

“I expected it to be really tough against Chong Wei and I prepared myself for it … but I didn’t expect it to turn out so bad,” said Wei Feng.

The 31-year-old Chong Wei will now meet exciting Japanese youngster Kento Momota in the last eight.

BIRMINGHAM: It was tame finish in the end for Hoon Thien How-Tan Wee Kiong as they crashed out in the quarter-finals of the All-England.

Fifth seeds Thien How-Wee Kiong let themselves down as they failed to stem the challenge of Indonesians Gideon Markis Fernaldi-Markis Kido, losing 18-21, 12-21 on Friday.It's the end of the road for Hoon Thien How (left) and Tan Wee Kiong in the All-England, losing to their Indonesian opponents in straight sets in the quarter-finals on Friday.

The Malaysian world No.7 pair started the match on equal footing with the French Open champions and were neck-and-neck in the first game.

Gideon-Markis however pulled away at 16-16 as they provided a stronger finish to take the first game.

Chris Adcock enjoyed a memorable day at the Yonex All England Championships in Birmingham as he safely navigated first round games in both the doubles and mixed doubles.

Chris and Gabby Adcock are through to the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles at the Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.

The fifth seeds got England’s day three challenge at the 104th Championships off to the perfect start with a 21-13 21-15 win over German pair Peter Kaesbauer and Isabel Herttrich.

The Adcocks, who won their first Superseries title in Hong Kong in November, are bidding to become the first home winners since Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms in 2005.

BIRMINGHAM: South Korea were struck a hard blow when the Badminton World Federation (BWF) slapped Lee Yong-dae and Kim Ki-jung with a one-year suspension for failing to file their whereabouts which led to missed dope tests.

With the Asian Games to be held in Incheon, South Korea, in September, it was definitely a big blow.
